Downsview run to hold special New Years edition

The weekly Downsview Parkrun event will be holding a special mid-week edition this January to start 2025 off on the right foot.

The run takes place across a five-kilometre distance in Downsview Park. It is noncompetitive, with participants invited to jog, walk, spectate, or participate however they want. The typical weekly event takes place every Saturday and often attracts over 100 participants, with over 150 runs held so far. Socializing and team spirit are encouraged, with a post-run trip to Tim Horton’s among the weekly rituals. The New Year’s Day edition, which follows a successful event on the same day last year, will look to attract a bigger turnout with runners encouraged to bring their families and friends.

The Parkrun event is run by volunteers who help to host the event and set the pace, with the extra event providing an extra hour for volunteer hours for school diplomas and other requirements. Participants can register in advance and receive a barcode to track their results. Return runners will be able to track their progress and strive for their personal best. Runs like this often use methods like banner printing and social media to help build their identity among fitness enthusiasts.

The special edition of Downsview Parkrun will take place on the morning of January 1, 2025 at Downsview Park.
