Downsview run to celebrate freedom to move

The Freedom to Move run will be taking place in Downsview this June, aiming to raise money to combat dystonia.

The run will challenge participants to raise funds and complete a 2-kilometre or 5-kilometre circuit. Those who have registered can walk, run, or wheel the final distance. There will be an opening ceremony at the beginning of the event highlighting the purpose of the event. Funds raised will go towards the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation Canada, which combats the neurological movement disorder that often causes involuntary motion or muscle contractions. The run is meant to contribute to the goal of everyone with the condition having the freedom to move.

The run has set the goal of raising $30, 000 for this year’s event. The event will also partner with fellow neurological health organization Hydrocephalus Canada. There will also be Apparel available for purchase. Charity events like this often offer commemorative clothing and Promotional Products to help give participants a memento and further raise awareness of the cause. The organization also invites people to take walk the distance virtually at a place of their choice any time during the month of June. The top three fundraisers will receive special prizes.

The 2025 Freedom to Move for Dystonia run will take place on the morning of June 8 at the Orchard Pavilion within Downsview Park.
