Downsview run to benefit local youth

After a successful first instalment, the YMCA Charity 5K will return to Downsview this September to help raise money for supporting local children’s camps.

The run challenges people of all ages and fitness levels to run or walk across a five-kilometre distance. Participants will be grouped into “corrals” based on their estimated finish times, with the final one recommended for families, those who plan on walking, and parents with strollers and wagons. Children aged six and older can participate alongside family members. The run will conclude with an awards ceremony for the biggest fundraisers and fastest runners, recorded using timing chips, and a festive post-run party.

Proceeds from entry fees and other donations will go towards the YMCA’s summer camp program, which helps provide outdoor and indoor recreation for children in the Greater Toronto Area and beyond who would otherwise be unable to afford it. The run has set an ambitious goal to raise $250,000 to support 600 children, 100 more than last year’s edition.

All run participants will receive a commemorative T-shirt and finisher medal, alongside other items in a race kit. Fundraisers like this often use Promotional Products like shirts and hats to both reward participants and spread further awareness of the cause.

The 2025 YMCA Charity 5K will take place at Downsview Park on the morning of September 27.
