A Cold War-era air force base, Downsview Park has found new life as a reservoir of the natural world in the Greater Toronto Area, and it wants kids to do a good turn for its resident feathered friends.
Park staff are hoping to spark a lifelong love of nature in children by hosting the Winter Bird Count for Kids. It will provide them with a way of being part of a much larger environmental movement that allows the public to become citizen scientists.
The program will be taking place outdoors, so families are reminded to dress appropriately for the weather. Binoculars are highly recommended, but there will be some available for anyone who does not have a pair. The run time for the activity is 90 minutes, and along with offering birds a helping hand, it may serve as a family break from the rush of the holiday season.

Downsview Park will be running its Winter Bird Count for Kids on Sunday, December 18th. It is part of its larger Nature Connection initiative.
