Downsview Park event will be for the birds

Downsview Park offers a taste of the wilderness right in the heart of the city, and the public’s assistance is being sought to help it provide plenty of food for the birds who call it home.

All ages are welcome to get involved in the ‘Blooms for Birds’ planting day, which will be held in the park. Participants will be installing native plants that can provide food and shelter for the area’s birds, and the activity is being offered as part of Bird Studies Canada and the Toronto Bird Celebration.

While the group installs the plants, they will be able to learn more about birds and how to observe them in the wild. They will also be able to engage in a bird count, and the data collected will be used to help monitor the numbers of birds in the local area.

While all ages are encouraged to get involved in this activity, anyone aged 14 or under will need to be accompanied by an adult. Service animals are welcome, but pets should be left at home. Simple field guides can help the participants in this type of activity identify the birds they see, and these can be prepared by Stationery printers.

Downsview Park’s Discovery Centre has scheduled this project for May 24th. Registration for the day will be opening on April 26th.
