Many kids are fascinated by the birds that share their world, and an environmental stewardship project planned for the Downsview neighbourhood will soon make it easy for them to help their feathered friends.
Downsview Park will be running the Bird Count for Kids session. This will be its 11th year, and while all ages are encouraged to attend, those under 16 will need to have a parent or guardian with them at all times.
The youngsters who participate will learn some of the basics of ethical birding, and they will also be able to collect lots of tips for identifying the species they see. The activity will run for 90 minutes, and while service animals are permitted, pets should be left at home. The activity can be made available in French, but arrangements for this must be made in advance.
A class that introduces some of the basics of environmental stewardship in a fun way can really catch a child’s interest. Groups sometimes supply attendees with promotional Pens, Journals, and activity Books to nurture their interest.
Downsview Park will be hosting the Bird Count for Kids session on Sunday, December 17th. It will get started at 2:00 pm and take around an hour and a half to complete. Additional details are available on the park’s official website.
