As the weather transitions from fall to winter, the trees in Downsview Park are also changing, and an activity has been planned that will help community members brush up on their identification skills.
The public is encouraged to be part of an outing that will show how, even without their leaves, it's still possible to identify the trees that grow in the park. The day is intended for adults only, and social distancing and other COVID-19 prevention measures will be in place during the activity.
The participants will be taking a guided walk, and as the group will be following accessible pathways, it can be enjoyed by those who need a wheelchair or other assistive device. The facilitator will teach how to use bark colour and texture, tree silhouettes, bud type, and other characteristics to identify a tree’s species. Since it will take place outdoors, everyone who registers is reminded to dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes.
Hosting this sort of activity is one way a park can connect with the public. Including it in community Calendars and other publications will help to spread the word to the public, and a clever Logo Design can be prepared by a printer to include in these promotional materials.
