A Downsview area presentation is set to introduce the public to some feathery members of the local community.
Specialists from the Mountsberg Raptor Centre will be coming to the High Park Nature Centre, and at least three special feathered guests will be coming along with them. The attendees will be offered a chance to see the raptors up close, alongside many more educational and fun activities.
The guest of honour for the celebration will be a red-tailed hawk, and contenders to accompany it are an American kestrel, broad winged hawk, peregrine falcon and kestrel. The facilitator will explain what makes each of these powerful birds special, and also how they are being impacted by human activity. After this portion of the function, attendees will head outdoors to do some raptor spotting of their own. Due to this, everyone is advised to come dressed for the weather.
Each of the participants in this hands-on learning activity will have a chance to use a raptor ID guide to help them identify the species they see. Print shops often supply these sorts of items, and are able to include full colour illustrations of the assorted species.
The High Park Nature Centre will be welcoming all ages for Falcons, Hawks and Flyways on October 18th. Registration is mandatory to attend the event.
