The YZD Plaza & Experience Centre has begun its Weekends at YZD series, bringing a variety of educational programs to the old Downsview Airport area.
The weekly series is designed to bring new people to YZD, which has now been reimagined as an event and tourist centre. The events started on September 22 with a workshop on creating felted fall leaves, hosted by North York Arts, and a circus arts tutorial by the Hercinia Arts Collective. Each Sunday will host a pair of seminars with experts from across the Toronto and North York regions. This will include yoga classes hosted by Dianna Jerry, pressed botanical art demonstrations by the Ecru Collective, and zine-making events sponsored by the Toronto Comic Arts Festival.
The Dance Together Festival, which holds events across Toronto, will be holding dance programs for adults aged 50 and over, with musical styles ranging from Brazilian drumming to classic waltz. Visitors to each event can also include complimentary mini-golf and lawn games and explore the recently opened Experience Centre. Public events like this often use methods like poster printing and local media outreach to help raise awareness. The goal of the series is to familiarize people with the YZD Plaza, located in the former Downsview Airport, which aims to be a hub for community events.
The Weekends at YZD program will run every Sunday until at least December 15 at the YZD Plaza & Experience Centre.
