Downsview compass activity to point the way to fun

Downsview Park is offering afternoon of orienteering using time-honoured tools, and it will include a friendly challenge for all the participants.

This free activity will teach members of the public how to use a compass, and it will include both indoor instruction and time outdoors. A limited supply of compasses will be available for the students to use, but anyone who has one of their own is encouraged to bring it with them.

The participants will start off with some time in the indoor classroom, and here, they will learn how to use properly use a compass to navigate. Once everyone is ready, the group will take to the park trails for a scavenger hunt challenge.

The organizers of the activity explained that, while younger people are welcome to join in the fun, anyone who is under 16 will need to have an adult with them. The activity may include walking over rough terrain, and the attendees should dress for the weather. Those who register for this learning opportunity have been asked to arrive at the park’s Discovery Centre by no later than 2:00 pm on the afternoon of Sunday, November 24.
