While many people are familiar with honeybees, they may not be as well versed when it comes to native species, but a Downsview area workshop may change that.
Toronto Botanical Garden offers its patrons and the general public a wide variety of learning opportunities, and one of these will be a hands-on class that constructs homes for native bees. Many of these species are quite gentle and even curious, making them welcome visitors to local gardens.
There are three different start times for the Let's Build a Bee House activity, and the materials will be provided. Each kit includes the bee house structure, as well as lakebed reeds that will provide the tubes for the mason bee cocoons that will be supplied. Prafulla Prabhu, who is the Chief Bee Officer of Pollinate Canada, will be the facilitator, and the activity is open to those aged 16 and up. The final registration date is June 20th.
Many people have become interested in environmental stewardship in recent years, and workshops offer a way to help them learn how to get started. Printed handouts for an activity like this can be created by area brochure printing companies.
This class, which will help to welcome native bees to local gardens, will be on offer on June 25th at 777 Lawrence Avenue East. The start times are 10:00 am, 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm.
