A holiday market near Downsview will be looking to stand out from the pack, drawing inspiration from the cozy anime films of Studio Ghibli.
The Ghibli Holiday Market will feature over 120 vendors offering gift and food items featuring holiday traditions, Japanese popular culture, and the intersection between the two. Announced vendors include Aura Laser Craft, Juice Box Studio, and Stickers by Suzie. Visitors can also enjoy a selection of Japanese snacks such as bento Boxes, onigiri and mochi. Vendors at events like this often offer special sales or Promotional Products to celebrate the occasion and win over customers. The market features the aesthetics of Studio Ghibli’s acclaimed animated movies such as Spirited Away, My Neighbour Totoro, and Kiki’s Delivery Service.
There will also be a number of workshops including pottery, cookie-baking, and gnocchi-making, and face-painting featuring Ghibli characters. The first day of the two-day market will also feature a performance by Japanese-style idol singers. Sunday morning will include a Howl’s Moving Castle Brunch, with an interactive viewing of the Ghibli movie of the same name accompanied by a three-course brunch. Attendees are encouraged to dress in costumes from their favourite Ghibli movies or other anime.
The 2024 Ghibli Holiday Market will take place at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Center in North York, Toronto. Visitors must register for tickets in advance.
