Vancouver to welcome return of Polar Bear plunge

A Polar bear swim is a well-loved tradition in communities from Newfoundland and Labrador to British Columbia, and Vancouver has scheduled one of these frosty dips.

English Bay Beach will see a group of intrepid bathers take to the ice water at English Bay Beach. It will help to get the new year off to a fun start, and it's free to reserve a spot.

While many who sign up for the activity may just run in and out again screaming from the chill, some may choose to stay in and swim a victory lap in the race while the public cheers them on. To make the activity even better, the festivities will include more than just the dip. There will be food trucks and live musical entertainment, and each registrant will receive a specially designed certificate.

Community events may garner a lot of interest from the public, and local small businesses are often invited to take advantage of the opportunity. The graphic design department at a local Print shop can prepare and install vehicle wraps for a food truck or other mobile vendor so it will look its best for special occasions.

The 105th Vancouver Polar Bear Swim is scheduled to run from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm on January 1st. The swimmers will take to the water at 2:30 pm.
