Urban dwellers may be green with envy when viewing the gardening opportunities in suburban and rural areas, but an upcoming event will show how they can make the most of their available space.
Vertical gardening is an option for those who would like to grow their own outdoor plants at home, but do not have a lot of space. The workshop that will be on offer at the Coal Harbour Community Centre in Vancouver will provide an introduction to this form of horticulture, which has been growing in popularity.
The attendees in the session will be introduced to a variety of gardening systems suitable for urban areas. They can be set up on a patio, balcony, wall or fence, and everything from choosing suitable plants to managing water use, fertilizing, pest control and light requirements will be covered. The group will discuss how the weight of a vertical garden can be an important consideration.
Along with the information about urban horticulture, the participants will all have an opportunity to visit the venue’s seed library to donate or pick up some seeds. When preparing for classes like this, organizers often order tip sheets, and these can be crafted by local Stationery printers for distribution.
The Introduction to Vertical Gardening session will be held on April 25th. It will run from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm at 480 Brighton Street.
