Vancouver celebrates cherry blossoms with picnic

As the seasons change from frigid winter temperatures to warmer spring weather, the city of Vancouver has been busy preparing for its annual Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival.

To celebrate the cherry blossom, the city has organized a series of events beginning on April 2 and running through to April 23. Print shops can help organizers of this type of event to spread the word to a community.

The kick-off to the three week-long festival begins with The Big Picnic at David Lam Park. At the park, picknickers can enjoy a meal while reveling under 100 Akeboro cherry trees. This event will honour Dr. David Lam, who donated cherry trees to the city of Vancouver.

The Big Picnic will be catered by a host of private sushi chefs who have aptly created a bento box called The Blossom Bento. There will also be other local food trucks in the vicinity for families to enjoy. This event also includes live local talent set to appear on the Cherry Jam Stage.

In addition, the event will showcase haiku poems from poets from over 40 different countries and will celebrate the winners of the Haiku Invitational. There will also be a haiku installation in partnership with the Squamish, Musqueam and Tsleil-Waututh nations.

The Big Picnic will take place on April 2 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at David Lam Park. Pre-registration is not required. Everyone is welcome, and event goers are encouraged to take pictures amongst the cherry blossom trees.
