Whether they have lots of experience or are new to the hobby, an event is on offer that may be of interest to Surrey birders. It will explore a variety of riparian habitats and offer an introduction to the birds that call this type of environment home.
This naturalist-led outing is open to all ages, and pre-registration is not required. It will be held whether whatever the weather unless it is especially bad.
The excursion will follow the trails through the forests in Elgin Heritage Park, and will also visit a meadow and salt and freshwater marshes. The participants can enjoy views of the Nicomekl River, and may be lucky enough to spot shorebirds, and other birds that make the site their winter home. Binoculars and comfortable walking or hiking shoes are recommended, as are guidebooks to help identify any species seen.
This type of activity can be a fun way to learn a new hobby, and can give experienced birders a chance to share their knowledge with newbies to the hobby. Supplying the participants with printed record sheets can make it easy for them to jot down any species they spot, and these, along with promotional Pens, can be obtained from an area printing services company.
This winter birding walk has been scheduled for the morning of January 18. It will begin at 9:00 am, and is set to depart from the parking lot on Crescent Road.
