After much planning and discussion, the Community Summit is set to take place in Surrey next month.
The organizers of the event welcomed input from citizens as to what types of discussions they wanted to have about the future of their city. What emerged included 12 workshops on such topics as ‘Community Gardens and Urban Gardening’, ‘Welcoming Community for New Canadians’, ‘Sustainability in Surrey’, ‘Connecting Neighbours, ‘Surrey 2050 - the vision’ and ‘Connecting with Youth Today’.
The keynote speaker for the summit will be Gord Hume and opening remarks will be given by Surrey mayor Dianne Watts. Other speakers will include Jason Roberts and Councillor Barinder Rasode. It should be a worthwhile event for those who care about their community and want to ensure it develops into the type of city they want to live in.
There will also be a lunch break, networking opportunities and a resource fair. No doubt the resource fair will feature organizations and companies which have a vision of how they want Surrey to be in the future.
The organizations involved will likely be working with local printing companies to prepare informative literature that will be handed out to interested parties. Brochures and Booklets are inexpensive to produce but can be an important tool in educating the public about various topics.
