An emergency can happen at any time, and residents of Surrey are invited to take part in an weeklong event that will help to make sure they are prepared should one happen.
Emergency Preparedness Week will provide an opportunity for the public to learn what to do should a disaster strike. There will be presentations held in four different locations across the city where people can learn more about how to make sure they know what to do, including having the supplies they need to be self-sufficient, should they ever need to do so, for at least 72 hours.
A Quake Cottage will also be set up at city hall so that residents can gain experience in what to do in case of an earthquake or other natural disaster. Along with attending a presentation, community members are encouraged to become an emergency social services volunteer and to set up a neighborhood emergency team.
While this type of event may never happen, ensuring that as many people as possible are prepared should one occur can make a big difference in the effect it has on the city. Brochures that give further details can be distributed during the different functions that have been planned for the week.
