What's Happening in Surrey, BC…

Surrey is often cited as one of the fastest growing communities in Canada. With this growth comes an increased need for more medical facilities and more investment in health care. The current BC Government has made the “largest capital investment in health care” of almost $750,000 to Surrey’s medical infrastructure. However, more money from public sources is being sought by the Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation. They hope to raise $10 million to build an 8-storey Critical Care Tower at the hospital, which is expected to open in 2014.

While it is important that those who are rich, such as Jim Patterson who donated $5 million, and those with successful businesses donate large sums of money to help raise money for the tower, it is also important that the general population are also given the opportunity to help. Since the public will be the benefactors of the planned expansions to the hospital, which overall will cost $512 million, it is only fitting that their help be solicited. The Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation could arrange for flyer printing as part of their fun-raising efforts. An inexpensive flyer sent out to all residents of Surrey asking for their help would not only raise money, it would also allow the residents to feel that their help is appreciated and needed.

The Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation has raised over $55 million dollars for medical equipment, training and research programs and treatments. Medical care costs are constantly rising and such foundations are becoming more and more important as government funds become more limited.
