The Canadian Cancer Society's 9th annual White Rock/South Surrey Relay for Life will take place at Centennial Park on June 22 - 23 beginning at 7:00 pm. Registration is $15 per person, with a meal before the run available for $6.50.
The Relay for Life takes place in several communities in Canada and the United States in June. It raises money to support cancer research, help educate the public about the disease, and influence public policy regarding health.
Participants convince their friends, family, and co-workers to sponsor them. The event will begin with a lap by survivors and current patients. People will be walking for themselves and for those they know who have been lost to the disease. The walk then goes on all night long.
There are many ways for local companies to take part in the Relay for Life. They can sponsor the event itself with monetary funds, supply services and T-Shirts to those taking part, encourage their employees to volunteer at the event, or form a team themselves. Forming a team would be a great team building exercise for any company, as working towards a common goal always brings people together. They could encourage their employees to take part in many ways, such as offering a paid day off to the person who raises the most money or presenting them with a certificate. Surrey printing companies can help them to design and create a certificate suitable for framing.
Taking part in the Relay for Life celebrates the fact that more and more people are surviving cancer, which is in no small part due to events like this.
