New Surrey RCMP assumes the role of Community Services Officer

Superintendent Sharnjit Gill – Shawn, as he is known more commonly – is the new Surrey RCMP Community Services Officer.

In his new position, Gill is responsible for the youth section, property crimes investigations, the traffic section, community policing, criminal intelligence, gang enforcement, the drug section and bike patrol squads.

For more than 26 years, Gill has worked with the RCMP in the Lower Mainland, and, in fact, 13 of those years were served in Surrey. He started out his career as a general duty officer with the Surrey RCMP, and has had the opportunity to work with various other groups, including the Integrated National Security Enforcement Team and the Langley RCMP’s Serious Crimes Section.

Most recently, Gill worked on the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team as an operations officer.

The announcement kept a printing company busy printing Business Cards and quite possibly desk and office door nameplates as well as Stationery printing.

Throughout his career, Gill has earned several accolades, including receiving an Officer in Charge Certificate of Recognition, a Long Service Medal in 2009 and a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012.

Gill was born in India and settled in Mackenzie, B.C. with his family as a young boy where he was raised. He has lived in and raised his own children in Surrey for the past 25 years.
