The 5th annual Surrey Walk for ALS will take place at Bear Creek Park on June 17 beginning at 11:00 am. This year's goal is to raise $60,000 for the cause.
Amyotropic Latelar Sclerosis (ALS) or Lou Gehrig's Disease is a neuromuscular disorder which destroys nerve cells in the brain and spinal chord. It progresses very quickly after diagnosis. 3,000 Canadians suffer from the disease which mainly afflicts those aged 55 to 65.
The Surrey Walk for ALS has raised over $150,000 over four years. Last year the walk raised $3 million Canada-wide and 84 communities throughout the country take part in the yearly walk. Participants in the walk register online and solicit donations from friends, family, and strangers.
The walk will also feature raffles, live entertainment, face-painting, and free snacks. Participation is for individuals and teams. It would be a great morale and team building exercise for a business to take part in this event. They can publicize their participation and solicit donations through the use of a flyer.
