Forestry disease course to be offered in Surrey

A course is being provided in Surrey for all those who have an interest in the fungal diseases that affect trees.

The Common Fungi Affecting Pacific Northwest Trees and Implications for Tree Risk Assessment workshop will train participants in how to find and identify the different fungal diseases that can attack trees, as well as the risk factors that can make plants more susceptible. Information will also be provided about what those in the forestry or horticultural profession can do to help prevent these infections from occurring in the first place.

The instruction will take place both inside the classroom and outdoors. The morning will provide instruction, while the afternoon will be dedicated to the practical application of what has been learned. Risk assessment techniques will be practiced, and actual fungal infections will be viewed to help those who participate learn how to identify them for themselves. The comb binding process can be utilized to create bound packages of materials for all those who sign up to take part in a training session such as this.

The course will be held in the Rotary Field House at South Surrey Recreation Center Complex on November 17. Registrations fees start at $150, with a discounted rate available for students.
