The Surrey Board of Trade is holding the Seasonal Sizzle business reception and trade show on December 7 from 5-8 pm. This annual event will be held at the Eaglequest Coyote Creek golf club and the theme will be Christmas in Ireland. Admission is by a cash or food donation to the Surrey Food Bank. Over 400 people are expected to attend this celebration.
This event will not only be a good way for Surrey business owners and Board of Trade members to connect and network with one another (better arrange for a new business card printing run!), it is also an excellent way to help one of the city’s most important organizations. Christmas is a time when the lack of food is felt most keenly and events like this bring much needed extra support to the Food Bank.
The Surrey Food Bank distributes over 15,000 food hampers to needy families in the area every month. The Food Bank, which has been in operation since 1983, operates out of a 7,000 square foot facility; they employ 13 staff and have over 100 volunteers. In addition to the hampers, the Food Bank has several other programs. The Gleaning program accepts leftover crops from local farmers, the Hamper to your Home program delivers food hampers to those who are disabled or infirmed, Tot Bundles provide necessary food for pregnant mothers and babies up to 1-year-old, the Layettes and Grad Gifts program provides needed supplies for babies from 0-1 and Toddler Totes provides necessities for children between their 1st and 2nd birthdays.
