Beekeeping course set for Surrey

Anyone who calls Surrey home and would like to try their hand at backyard beekeeping is welcome to register for a three-part class that will offer a solid grounding in the subject.

The Honeybee Centre is set to run an instalment of its Complete Beekeeping course, which is well suited to the beginner. It will have a focus on sustainability, and everyone who takes part will gain the knowledge they need to keep their bees healthy and happy.

The course will take place in the classroom, and the topics covered will range from where to obtain bees to their biology, hive health and management, and many other subjects. Those who register can also sign up another member of their household at a discount, and there will be three supplemental workshops throughout the year as well.

While the activity may be geared towards backyard honey production, it may also be suitable for those considering setting up a commercial apiary operation. Everyone will receive a copy of the publication “Beekeeping in Western Canada”. Learning materials for a class like this one can be produced by Stationery printers.

This opportunity for Surrey residents to hit the ground running when it comes to raising these industrious insects will begin on April 21st. It will continue on April 22nd and wrap up on April 23rd at 7480 176 Street in Surrey.
