This September will see the Wine Country Writer’s Festival come to Penticton, offering writers from across western Canada and beyond the chance to be inspired by the scenery of inland British Columbia.
The festival will feature three days of workshops and panels on the craft of writing. Attendees can choose between four workshops each hour on Saturday, as well as larger events on Friday and Sunday. Presenters include award-winning Indigenous author Brian Thomas Isaac, freelance journalist Cathalynn Cindy Labonte-Smith, and children’s and young adults author Lorna Schultz Nieholson. The keynote speech will be delivered by best-selling Canadian fantasy author Suzy Valdori, who will also give a presentation on “From Idea to Author.” The event is open to local writers, as well as anyone interested in the literary craft.
As the name suggests, the festival will also incorporate nods to inland British Columbia’s wine industry. The weekend will include a wine tasting, a dinner event, and a trolley tour of “Wine Village.” Social and networking events can be crucial for writers, with social media and business card printing warranting as much attention as polishing a manuscript. Writers can also meet with agents and industry experts one-on-one to pitch Books and receive “blue pencil” feedback on short selections of their writing.
