Penticton comedy show supports mental health

Penticton will be hosting a special “Matinee for Mental Health” comedy event this October, featuring a performance by Big Daddy Tazz.

A Canadian comedy veteran, Tazz is known for his stage presence, wit and ability to tell a story, having appeared at festivals like Just For Laughs and shows like CBC’s The Debaters. Tazz will be performing a full set about his own experiences with mental illness, looking to break down the stigma around these conditions. Promotional material for the show emphasizes Big Daddy Tazz’s comedic approach:

“..talk about the hard stuff, find the humour where you can, and remind people that they are not alone. [...] Known affectionately as “The Bi-Polar Buddha,” Tazz brings an infectious energy and an ability to find the funny in the very human messiness of life.”

In addition to providing laughs, the show is meant to raise awareness of mental health issues in Penticton, under the slogan “Let’s Laugh Together: Because Mental Health Matters.” Tazz has previously won the John Candy Award for his efforts promoting the cause. Events like this one often use brochure printing or other hand-outs to provide information and ways to help in addition to the more entertaining components.

The Matinee for Mental Health event will take place on the afternoon of October 10 at The Hub on Martin in Penticton.
