The Adventure Racing World Championships will be staged in Penticton this fall, using the natural challenges of the Okanagan Valley as a racetrack.
The event will see teams of four from across the world race a 750-kilometre course over ten days, with 60 teams representing 25 countries. The exact race route will be kept a secret until the morning of the event, and participants will have to travel on foot, mountain bike, canoe, and will even involve rope climbing. Racers must navigate the path using only a map and compass, testing their abilities of survival.
This year’s race will have its hub in Okanagan Lake Park, which will host opening and closing ceremonies. Spectators can also track the racers through live GPS positioning and community engagement. Updates on racers’ placements will also be posted online.
The World Championships is the culmination of the Adventure Racing World Season series, which hosts over 80 events on 6 continents. This year’s championships are hosted by the Expedition Canada organization, which also runs an annual qualifying race. Extreme sporting events similar to this will typically make use of advertising methods like flyer printing to help attract a cult audience.
The 2025 Adventure Racing World Championships will take place at Okanagan Lake Park and surrounding areas in Penticton from September 23 to October 4.
