Revellers will gather at the Penticton Lakeside Resort this month for a special celebration of Robbie Burns Day.
The holiday is traditionally associated with Scottish culture and is in honour of the legendary 18th-century poet Robbie Burns. The Penticton Resort gathering will include traditional Scottish entertainment, including the Vale United Pipe Band, the Emily McDonald School of Highland Dance performers and the Naramata Scottish Country Dancers. There will also be a poetry reading and other presentations throughout the night, with plenty of opportunities for dance and revelry. Burns has been recognized as the National Bard of Scotland for his mastery of both poetic rhyme and the unique Scottish dialect, combining them into approachable verse.
The Penticton gathering will also include traditional Scottish dinner with roast beef, haggis, mashed potatoes, baron of beef with horseradish and more. There will also be vegetarian options and lighter dessert and coffee options. The event is produced by the organizers of the Penticton Scottish Festival, which typically holds a summer gathering full of educational and competitive events celebrating Scottish and Gaelic sports, music, and culture.
Robbie Burns Day celebrations are hosted all around the world, often advertised with a tartan-themed graphic design and lessons on Burns’ history.
