Penticton pickleball tourney to benefit charity

A local mental health charity will be hosting the Pickleball for Mental Health fundraiser in Penticton this August, connecting the popular sport with local health promotion.

The three-day tournament will include men’s and women’s competition, as well as a mixed doubles bracket. The events will also be divided based on skill level, with an additional competition for those over 60, to help make sure that everyone can take part. Each category will also include a round robin stage to give all registered participants multiple games, with the top four in each category advancing to the playoffs.

Funds raised through the event will go towards the Canadian Association for Mental Health’s South Okanagan Similkameen branch, which provides resources and treatment to those suffering from mental illnesses such as depression and anxiety. Participants in the tournament will receive a tax donation receipt from CAMH. Friends and family can also attend for free as spectators.

Drawing on the increased popularity of pickleball, the tournament has been a hit in Penticton over past years, including raising $36,000 in 2023. Charitable events like this often use methods like brochure printing and guest speakers to help illustrate the benefit that the associated non-profit organization provides.

The 2025 Pickleball for Mental Health tournament will be held at the Penticton Seniors Drop-in Centre Society from August 29 to 31.
