If things go as planned, Penticton film and theatre lovers will soon have a new place to enjoy a show.
The Penmar Community Arts Society (PCAS) now has a new sponsor that has made a large donation. The Society hopes it will help to give it the capital it needs to convert the current movie house into a center for the performing arts. The accounting firm of White Kennedy Chartered Professional Accountants, which is located in Penticton, made a donation of $5,000 to the group.
According to the president of the PCAS, the accounting company is joining Meiklejohn Architects in supporting the initiative. The society is still managing the venue, and there is a movement that is making it a cooperative that allows its members to invest in the theatre.
The plan for the revitalized building is that it will be used for both live theatre and film, with an emphasis of performers and filmmakers from the local area, as well as second run, classic and foreign films, and traveling performers. A poster printing firm will be able to produce promotional materials for the live shows, movies, and other performances, as well as Signs and decorations for use within the theatre itself.
