The Snakebite Film Festival will be returning to Penticton this February, offering everything from Hollywood classics to local film projects.
The festival has the stated goal of “Awakening Culture, Uniting Communities”, with the goal of bringing together groups from across the South Okanagan and highlighting the diversity of the Penticton area through film. This year’s festival lineup includes repertory screenings of the classic 1988 musical “Hairspray” and acclaimed 2022 drama “The Inspection”, as well as independent productions such as “Seagrass”, a drama about a Japanese-Canadian woman dealing with the death of her mother; and Iranian-American comedy “The Persian Version”.
The Snakebite Festival will also include a screening of short films produced by local creators through the 5 Day Film Challenge, with one film’s team receiving a $1000 grand prize. Accompanying the movies will be shoulder programming including an opening-night Friends of Snakebite gathering, a gala presentation, and even a wine tour, true to the spirit of the Okanagan. Film festivals such as this often use methods like brochure printing or filmmaker talks to help provide additional context on movies and the festival’s schedule. The festival is volunteer run, with all funds raised going towards running the event.
The 2024 Snakebite Film Festival will take place from January 31 to February 4, with all movie screenings taking place at the Landmark 7 Cinemas in Penticton.
