The 16th annual Penticton Dragon Boat Festival is taking place over two days next month. A portion of proceeds raised at this event will be donated to the Survivorship, the South Okanagan’s breast cancer survivor dragon boat team.
All of the teams have now signed up to participate in the race and there will be 2,500 participants. They include women only, breast cancer survivors, mixed, and junior. Fees were $1,260 per team or $630 for juniors. The races will consist of two qualifying 500-meter heats on the first day followed by semifinals and finals on the last day.
For spectators and participants after their races, there will be a variety of food available for purchase, live entertainment, and local vendors selling various types of merchandise and arts and crafts. There will also be a beverage garden with all proceeds going to Survivorship.
This should be an enjoyable day out for Penticton families and a chance to support those who are recovering from breast cancer. Local printing companies may be asked to provide items such as Flyers for advertising or signage for vendors.
The Penticton Dragon Boat Festival will be held at the Penticton Paddling Center and on Skaha Lake from September 10 to 11. Admission is free of charge. To find out more about this event, call 250-488-3100.
