This March will see the return of one of Penticton’s biggest arts festival with Ignite the Arts, a 10-day event that aims to make Penticton the arts capital of British Columbia.
The festival begins with Community Week, aimed at celebrating artwork by ordinary people in the Penticton community. This will be followed by a weekend of ticketed festival events, with artists, musicians, and other creators from across the province and beyond. The Penticton Art Gallery will be running a Mini Mural program, a series of Artist Talks, and a Lake to Lake Art Walk with the goal of encouraging creativity and art appreciation. Children and families can also register for art camps running throughout March Break week.
Each musical act invited will be playing twice over the course of the weekend to ensure visitors are able to see all their favourites. Artists of all types will be holding workshops to help attendees improve their skills. The festival will spill out into the city streets for the Parade for No Reason and City Wide Art Walk events. Art festivals such as this celebrate a wide range of media, from traditional painting to modern graphic design to sculpture and music. Each edition of Ignite the Arts typically sees hundreds of artists exhibiting their work in one way or another.
The 2024 Ignite the Arts Festival will be hosted at venues around Penticton between March 22 and 31.
