Maple Ridge project seeking North America's largest freshwater fish

Sturgeon is a species of fish that has been swimming in lakes and rivers for millions of years, and they were around when the dinosaurs walked the earth. Their numbers have been in decline in recent years, and a Maple Ridge activity can help throw them a lifeline.

The Juvenile Sturgeon Tagging and Conservation workshop will be focused on these fish, which is the largest freshwater species to be found in North America. Members of the Fraser Valley Angling Guides Association will be on hand to help out, and it will be a hands on activity.

The group will catch and land as many sturgeon as they can, and each fish will be tagged and then released back into the water. This can provide valuable information about the species and its overall health, making it easier to make good wildlife stewardship choices. Stationery printers can offer materials such as record sheets, water proof Notepads and other items that can be helpful for this sort of project, and have promotional Pens on offer as well.

This opportunity for area amateur naturalists, sportsmen and anyone else who would like to learn more about environmental stewardship will be offered on March 21st and 22nd. The catch, tag, record and release process will be taking place along the Fraser River.
