When looking for a way to perk up a dull Tuesday, families need look no further than the Maple Ridge Public Library.
Until April 25th, every Tuesday evening is Family Game Night. People are invited to bring the kids, aunts, uncles, grandparents, neighbours and friends along for a fun night of board games – there is something for every age.
Librarian Amanda Geofroy encourages folks to get together and says that games are a good way to support literacy and help young ones develop reading, numeracy and direction-following skills. Game nights are also a great time for mingling and meeting people, when children can learn social skills and make new friends.
Board games have been making a comeback in recent years. Whether simple and easy like ‘Sorry’ and ‘Snakes and Ladders’ or more complex and strategic like ‘Risk’ or ‘Settlers of Catan’, the Library has a wide selection of games available. Though they are not available to check out, as the Books are, they are all available to play on site.
The Library is open Monday through Thursday between 9am and 8pm, Friday and Saturday between 10am and 5pm and Sunday between 1pm and 5pm. Tuesday Family Game Night is from 6pm to 7pm. Events like this are often promoted online and businesses often use graphic design to make creative pages to post on their websites.
