Cemeteries often provide a glimpse into the past of a community and who has called it home throughout the years, and an upcoming project will be giving cemeteries located in Maple Ridge some love and care.
Maple Ridge Cemetery, along with Whonnock Cemetery, will be getting some attention from the volunteers who lend a hand with the Headstone Preservation Project. There are three dates available, with both morning and evening time slots to choose from.
The activity will be a hands-on project, and while all ages are encouraged to get involved, those aged 16 and under will need to have an adult take part with them. Everyone who participates will be helping to preserve the history of Maple Ridge, and a list of supplies that the volunteers will need to bring along with them will be supplied closer to the scheduled dates.
Restoration projects like this offer community members the opportunity to take an active role in preserving the past. Many organizations host events for their volunteers where they distribute corporate gifts to offer thanks for all their hard work.
Maple Ridge Museum’s Headstone Preservation Project will take place on both August 6th and 17th at Maple Ridge Cemetery. There will also be a session at Whonnock Cemetery on September 7th. Attendance can be registered via the Maple Ridge Museum website.
