The fertile land in and around Delta makes it one of the region's most important food growing areas, and each year, it produces many tons of fresh fruit and vegetables. Knowing how to use them to their best advantage can be good for the health of both people and the environment, and an upcoming workshop can help.
Ian Lai will be hosting a class focused on food. The learners will a variety of ways to prepare and even preserve locally sourced produce, and this can be a delicious way for them to reduce their carbon footprint.
One of the goals of the event is to teach people how to make the most of each fruit and vegetable as it comes into season. The group will be taught how to plan meals according to what local produce is readily available, which can also save money. The class is scheduled to take one and a half hours to complete.
The Season Kitchen workshop is part of a series that will be focused on sustainability. Print shops can aid in a class like this by preparing guides that indicate which produce is season at a particular time of the year, as well as cards printed with recipes that make the most of the bounty.
Harris Barn will be the venue for this learning opportunity, and it has been planned for July 21. A full listing of the other workshops can be found on the City of Delta website.
