Delta will hold its inaugural Museum Fest this June to encourage people of all ages to engage with the city’s museums.
The Transit Museum Society will be bringing a vintage 1957 GM Oldlook bus to explore. The Fraser River Forge will be represented by a team of blacksmiths forging at three anvils, creating nails and other small forged items that visitors can take home with them. BC Fresh will allow young learners to get hands on with “potato power”, building electrical circuits through root vegetables.
Museum Fest will also include a number of booths by educational and cultural organizations from throughout the Delta area. Participating organizations include the Delta Heritage Society, Boundary Bay Quilters, UME Game Design, and West Coast Seeds. Events like these provide an opportunity for local organizations to connect with the community, often using Promotional Products and other hand-outs.
Other activities at the festival include bridge building, ice-cream making, and paper plane flying contest The event is aimed at a family audience to encourage new people to visit the Discovery Centre and other museums and galleries within the Delta area. Activities will be themed around the history of Delta as well as its present culture.
The first edition of Museum Fest will take place at the Donald J. Husband Discovery Centre on June 6. Admission will be free for all visitors.
