This June will see the town of Delta further its environmental commitment by celebrating the international “Pollinator Week”, with events celebrating bees and other pollinators that make the local ecosystem work.
The celebrations in Delta will begin with a screening of the documentary film My Garden of a Thousand Bees at the North Delta Centre for the Arts. There will also be a Pollinator Walk & Talk taking place between the Discovery Centre and City Hall, with participants able to learn about the role pollinators play in the ecosystem and the way to attract them to a home garden or planter on a windowside or patio. The week’s activities aim to promote ecological knowledge as well as practical gardening how-tos.
The two events are designed to highlight Delta’s status as a Pollinator Steward Certified city. This includes the pollinator garden, which was installed in front of City Hall in 2022 as part of the Bee City Canada campaign, and will be featured at the conclusion of the Walk & Talk. Pollinator Week is an annual celebration across Canada that aims to help preserve bees and other pollinators and encourage awareness through educational lessons and community events. Initiatives such as this often use methods like banner printing and social media to help attract attention.
Pollinator Week 2024 will take place in Delta in June, with the film screening taking place on the 20th and the Walk and Talk on the 20th.
