Aimed at the youth of Delta, the Christmas Bird Count is set to make its return for another year, thanks to a combined effort from Bird Studies Canada and the BCFO Young Birder Program.
The group will meet up before they set out for the bird count. They will be guided by an experienced birder, and can expect to see red polls, owls, hawks, sparrows and, with some luck, they may just spot a “lifer”. They will record their observations and other data, and this will be pooled with results from other areas to create an overall snapshot of how various species are doing.
Each attendee is asked to dress warmly, and a camera, binoculars and a scope are also highly recommended. Hot chocolate will be provided, and everyone is asked to bring nut free snacks. Masks are mandatory, and it is intended for youth aged 12 to 18.
An activity like this, which combines learning with fun, can often benefit from the services of local Print shops. They can prepare maps, field guides, data recording sheets and even a lapel pin or other Promotional Products to give to each participant.
The Delta Kids Christmas Bird Count will be taking place on January 3rd. The registrants are asked to meet up at the foot of 72nd St at the Boundary Bay Dyke.
