Delta food grower brings fun to the farm

Delta’s Westham Island Herb farm recently hosted another Day at the Farm

The event, which provides the public with a unique opportunity to learn more about farm life and see how a working farm operates, was staged by Delta farmland Wildlife Trust, which had help from Sharon Ellis and her family.

This was the 10th anniversary for the event, and to mark the occasion, it was even bigger and more diverse than in previous years. Almost 30 organizations that have ties to the agricultural community had set up a variety of displays – many of them interactive – that helped visitors to learn more about how the food they eat gets to their table, and also the important role that farming plays in today’s world.

There were hay wagon rides, music, a muffin judging , tours of the farm milking shows, a rope making demo, and a chance for people to dig their own potatoes fresh form the soil. There was also freshly prepared local food to sample. A Print company can provide informational materials that can be given out to those who attend that provide even more information, as well as agriculture-themed coloring sheets for the kids.

Entrance to the event was free of charge, although organizers pointed out that a donation to the food bank was appreciated.
