In today’s world, most people buy their cheese at the grocery store or other retail outlet, but a Delta class will demonstrate how easy it can be to make it in the home kitchen.
The Southlands Grange Centre for Farming and Food offers the public a variety of ways to learn, and its cheesemaking workshop is right around the corner. The fee for instruction and materials is $100, and anyone who is interested can choose from a morning or afternoon session.
The group will discover the chemistry behind the process of cheesemaking, and its history will also be explored. There will be a review of how using different ingredients, preparation methods and aging can produce cheese with different flavours and characters, and everyone will have a chance to try their hand at producing this popular food. Once the session has drawn to a close, the learners will all go home with enough ingredients to make up to four pounds of fresh, unripened cheese.
The long days of winter can be a great time to learn something new, and local workshops help to make this possible. Organizers that require poster printing to advertise such activities can access this service at area printers.
The Make Cheese at Southlands workshop will be on offer on February 12th at 6333 Market Avenue. More details are available online.
