Walk for those with Alzheimer's

Alzheimer's Disease affects over 70,000 people in the province of British Columbia - both sufferers and their families - which is why every year, the Alzheimer Society of B.C. holds a walkathon in various towns and cities in the province to raise both money and awareness about the disease.

The society raises funds to help find a cure for the disease, to find a cause, and to discover treatment options for those suffering with this debilitating disease. Those who choose to take part can run, walk, or roll over the 5K route, raising funds by getting people to sponsor them with pledges.

This year, the Chilliwack walk will be honoring Vi Hoyt and her family. While taking part in the event, participants will be entertained by a DJ, musical performances including a ‘Tribute to Johnny Cash’ by Daryl Weyman, and snacks from Tim Horton's. Gift baskets will also be raffled off, with tickets costing $5 for 10 and each person receiving one free ticket at the door. This should be a fun event for participants and those cheering them on. The fact it is for such a good cause will only make it even more enjoyable.

Chilliwack businesses can also get in on the fun by creating a team to take part in the walkathon. They can work with local printing companies to design and Print a flyer to either post in the workplace or to send out to customers and suppliers as a way to get more pledges.

The Investors Group Walk for Memories will take place at the Landing Sports Center on January 27. For more information, contact Jillian Armit at 604-702-4603.
