Chilliwack event to showcase local authors

The BC Author Society will be holding its first ever Local Author Market in Chilliwack this June, aiming to showcase writers from throughout British Columbia.

The event will feature authors exhibiting their Books in a variety of genres, offering a chance to find stories with a local touch or that are off the beaten path. There will also be local artisans offering “Bookish” items to appeal to readers. Authors will be giving dramatic readings of their work as part of the Reading Corner.

The price of admission will include a $5 voucher for any item inside, ensuring nobody goes home empty-handed. There will also be hourly raffle prizes and door prizes including Books and other items. The fair area will also include on-site food provided by Heritage Hut, and parking available nearby in exchange for a donation to a local charity group.

The Fair promises hundreds of items on offer, including both traditionally and independently published Books. Modern authors often use printing services and online distribution to help get their work out to readers directly. The BC Author Society is a nonprofit organization that aims to support local writers through events like these and other resources, with their mission statement saying:

“We hope to provide a platform for authors to support each other and help each other grow.”

The inaugural BC Local Author Market will take place on June 6 at Chilliwack Heritage Park.
