Chilliwack residents will soon have another reason to enjoy spending time in the city’s downtown area.
A public piano is to be installed on the sidewalk outside the Royal Hotel, which was donated by a Langley couple who had decided to downsize. The plan is for it to be painted in bright and cheerful colours, and also that it will be on a dolly with casters so that it can be moved when needed. This way, it can also be stored indoors if the weather gets too bad.
Anyone strolling by who feels like playing a tune will be able to do so, and the hope is that the melodies will help to provide a pleasant atmosphere for those who are in the area to shop or just relax. A printing company can produce laminated song and music sheets, which can be left at the piano so that the public will be able to use them should they feel like giving it a try.
The city has lent its support to the project, and has also provided a space where the instrument can be anchored. Serval businesses in the community have also chipped in and made donations to help get the piano situated in its new home. Three local firms also played a part by donating the casters, dolly, and paint that were used to make the instrument ready for its downtown stay.
