Chilliwack theatre group to celebrate Shakespeare

This spring’s production by the Chilliwack Players Guild will be a light-hearted tribute to the Bard himself in a production of The Book of Will.

The play, written by Lauren Gunderson, is set after Shakespeare’s death and tells the story of two actors putting together the playwright’s First Folio to preserve his work for future generations. The play is written in modern language with plenty of humour throughout. The Chilliwack production is directed by Clint Hames, who has previously directed numerous shows for the Player’s Guild, including last spring’s production of Calendar Girls with Laura Hames serving as producer.

The cast includes a host of local actors, including Graham Archer and Andy Rolleman in the lead roles of John Heminges and Henry Condell, drawn from auditions this past December. The work is produced by the Chilliwack Players Guild, which has been creating local community theatre for almost a century. In addition to hosting major spring and winter productions, the Guild also holds smaller events, and will be involved in the upcoming Fraser Valley Zone Theatre Festival in May.

Community theatre events such as this are often promoted through poster printing and word of mouth and provide opportunity for local performers and creative people.

The Chilliwack Players Guild’s production of The Book of Will is set to be performed from April 20 to 30 at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre.
