The performance, called Proximity: A Collection of Short Works, is the work of Joshua Beamish. He will perform the title work alongside Renee Sigouin, who works with OutInnerspace Dance theatre and Kidd Pivot. Sigouin will also perform a solo dance choreographed by Beamish called Lost Touch. In addition, there will be a solos piece by Kirsten Wicklund of Ballet BC, and Beamish’s performance of a work by international choreographer Annabelle Lopes Oschoa.
Marketing for the show highlights Beamish and his talents:
“Full of authenticity, an explosion of energy and technical precision, prolific British Columbia dancer Joshua Beamish brings forth a joyous collection of dances.”
Proximity was first performed as a digital piece streamed in October 2020, but this event will give Chilliwack area residents the chance to see the piece in person. While hailing from British Columbia, Beamish is an internationally known dancer and choreographer, having performed in cities such as New York and London. Dance events like this, typically promoted by tools such as social media and poster printing, often feature a theme or message complemented by lighting and music, and are today influenced by everything from classical ballet to modern hip-hop.
Proximity: A Collection of Short Works will be performed at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre on the evening of December 2.
