Chilliwack run to raise money for womens health

Runners in Chilliwack will be celebrating Mother’s Day this May with a special event aimed at raising money for maternal health care.

The race, dubbed Run for Mom, has been held on an annual basis since 2000. Participants are invited to run or walk the five-kilometre distance at whatever pace they are comfortable with. The emphasis is on having fun and contributing to the cause instead of competition. Participants can set up a fundraising page on the Run for Mom website and have friends and family donate to their run.

The money raised will go towards the maternity department at the Chilliwack General Hospital through the Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation, and it will be used to buy items such as fetal monitors, labour delivery beds, specialized surgical tables and more.

The run is also open to youth and children, who can choose to run a shorter distance if appropriate. The event is one of several that the Foundation runs throughout the year to raise money for health care in the Valley region, including the Healthcare Heroes softball tournament in the summer and a golf event on Labour Day weekend. Fundraisers such as this, often using tools such as flyer printing and social media to advertise, can be a great way to bring a community together for a good cause.

The 2023 edition of Run for Mom will take place along Chilliwack’s Vedder Trail on the morning of May 14.
