Chilliwack riders welcome new schedules

BC Transit has made some changes to its schedule, and Chilliwack residents have, quite literally, “come on board”.

The authority recently increased the hours of operation for its most high volume routes, and it has proved to be a big success.

There has been an overall 6% increase in the number of riders in 2013/2014, and some of the more popular routes have shown an ever larger acceptance. For example, Route #1, which is one of the Vedder routes, increased by 15%.

Once the roads with the largest volume of usage were identified and the upward adjustments were made to the hours, the effect was almost immediate. Commuters, shoppers, and students have all welcomed the improvements. This is all part of BC Transit’s commitment to serving its ridership and the taxpayers who support it.

The authority plans to take a proactive approach by continuing to increase the hours on the Promotory, Evans, and Vedder routes starting in September.

Moves to create a Fraser Valley Express Line – which will connect Abbotsford, Chilliwack and Langley – are still in the works for 2015.

The improvements in the number of hours may well have a positive effect for those firms and non-profit groups that advertise on the buses, as there will be more people who see their ads. Print companies can work with firms to create these promotional materials.
